My girl

Last week, Sophie and I were sitting on the back porch steps while she was enjoying a popsicle. Brian had a very crummy week regarding one of his jobs, and so I was thinking about him. I was staring off into the yard when I said, "Sophie, you know what I was just thinking? You have the best Daddy in the whole world." She didn't miss a beat and said, "And Mama."

That's my girl.

Things that make you go hmmm......

So last week Brian and I were in the living room while Sophie was sitting on the potty before she went to bed. All of a sudden I heard Sophie say, "It's stuck!" I turn around from the computer and she has the potty seat.... on her head... down over her ears... stuck! Brian starts laughing, Sophie starts crying, and I jump up to rescue her. Brian wanted me to take a picture first, but there was no way I had time since she was having a meltdown. So, what we couldn't figure out is how do you go from sitting on the potty to thinking to yourself, "This thing might look good on my head." It was funny, gross, surprising and scary. Hmmmm....

Just a minute ago, I gave Sophie a small pack of mini-M&M's to eat as her snack after dinner. I was already finished eating and was on the computer. I asked her once (since it was taking a long time for her to finish her treat) if she was finished, and she said, "Not yet." Fast forward 15 minutes later when she is in the bathroom supposedly washing her hands. I walk into the bathroom and there is a mini-M&M in the sink. Here's how the conversation went:

Sophie (pointing): "I got the M&M out."
Jill: "Where was it? Did you get it out of your teeth?"
Sophie: "Noooo. It came out of my nose."
Jill: "It came out of your nose? Are there any more M&M's in your nose?"
Sophie: "Noooo."
Jill: "How many M&M's did you put up your nose?"
Sophie: "One. I just blew it out."

I thought only boys did stuff like that. Hmmmmm.....

Sophie's last day of school

Today was Sophie's last day of K-3. Wow, how the school year has flown by! God blessed us with a great school and a great teacher for Sophie's first year, and for that I am truly grateful. Ms. Morgan provided an encouraging and nurturing environment for my daughter to learn and grow, and I know it was nothing short of a God thing that she was chosen as Sophie's teacher. Brian and I got to go to her school and eat a picnic lunch with her and see a DVD that Ms. Morgan had put together from the year. We had a great time and Sophie was so excited that her Mama and Daddy were there. Above are pictures from the first day of school and her last. Below is the pics from our picnic.

Sophie got a haircut

Sophie got a new haircut on Thursday and it looks ADORABLE! I had been telling Brian for about a month that I was going to cut her hair and I finally did it. It looks so much better short, and since her hair is so thin and fine, I'm hoping it will thicken up a bit. Everyone that has seen her has loved it. The only down side is that it makes her look a little older. What do you think?

Party Day

Today Sophie celebrated her birthday (early) with her friends at school. Before I became a Mom, I would always daydream about these kind of days when I could do special things with my child. I was so excited, and oh yeah, so was Sophie! She specifically asked for a Strawberry Shortcake party and I had so much fun buying special treats for the class to enjoy. We had a good time, and my girl was so happy her Mama came to her school.

Sophie update

Thanks so much to everyone who has been praying for Sophie.

The good part: Sophie DOES NOT have reflux in her kidneys so the test went fine. Nothing was abnormal.

The bad part: It was awful. I am emotionally drained from this experience.

She screamed louder than I have ever heard her scream. She cried. She wanted it to be "all done". She wanted to get down. She was pitiful. And there was nothing I could do about it. She was so scared and it broke my heart.

After they filled her bladder with dye, the doctor needed her to go peepee on the table so they could determine if there was any reflux going on with her kidneys. She didn't want to. We told her we would be all done if she would just go peepee. The nurse then had to pour 4-5 glasses of warm water on her to make her go potty. Eventually she did. Even though we were only there about 15 minutes, it was the longest 15 minutes of my life. Whoever said parenting isn't for cowards wasn't kidding. But then when they said "all done", she said, "Thank you. Thank you nice lady. Thank you, Doctor. I did it. All done." That's my girl.

The only thing we are waiting on now is for the culture to come back on her urine to make sure the UTI is gone. I'll have to talk to the doctor but we shouldn't have to go see the urologist next month.

Sophie

Sophie is scheduled for a VCUG test on Wednesday, October 24. I will be glad when this part of our lives is over! The test will determine if there is any damage to her kidneys as a result of the infection and/or if there is anything anatomically going on to cause the infection. Also, she will need to go and see a urologist, but that appointment has not been scheduled at this time. I'll keep you posted.

Sophie medical update

I took Sophie to the pediatrician's office on Wednesday for a follow-up urinalysis after her urinary tract infection because the doctor wanted to make sure that her infection was cleared up. Unfortunately, when the doctor's office called us yesterday morning, they said her urine came back with "suspicious activity" for bacteria. Therefore, they wanted us to come in so they could get a clean specimen directly from her bladder by using a catheter. Sophie did great, but they called me later and said the clean specimen still had suspicious activity. So she is on a different antibiotic right now until the culture comes back. And assuming the culture comes back positive for bacteria, we will then need to go to Greenville Hospital System so they can conduct a VCUG test where they use a catheter to run dye into her bladder to check for reflux and other anatomical abnormalities. So, if you're reading this, please keep praying for our girl and our finances (i.e., no health insurance). God is in control.

First Tea Party

On Wednesday, Sophie and I had her first tea party. We used a Strawberry Shortcake tea set that was just adorable. We invited all of the Groovy Girls and made hot tea and cinnamon toast. Sophie wouldn't even try the tea and opted for milk. She dressed up in a sweet dress that her friends Anna and Hope gave her, and really had fun drinking out of her teacup. I really enjoyed this special time with her and loved taking pictures!

Prayer Request - Update

Sophie's renal ultrasound last Friday came back normal (thank you, Lord!). She did great during the test, and we were really proud of her. She has been taking an antibiotic for almost 10 days now, so we will go back to the doctor for a follow-up urinalysis in a couple of weeks to make sure the infection is gone. We really appreciate everyone's prayers.

Prayer Request

If you are reading this, please pray for Sophie. She was diagnosed yesterday with a urinary tract infection, and from what I understand, this shouldn't be happening to a 3-year old. As a result, the doctor as ordered that she undergo a renal sonogram tomorrow to see if there is anything anatomically causing the infection. The pediatrician called today and said Sophie's infection is caused by E-coli and that is a good sign. Lord willing, everything will look normal tomorrow on the sonogram and this will only have been a precaution. I'll keep you posted.

First Day of School

She did it! Sophie started her first day of K-3 today and did great! She woke up early and said, "I'm going to school soon." I said, "You sure are." Even though I stopped this morning to take several pictures we still arrived on time (thank you, Lord!). She was very proud of her bag and really anxious to get to school. We prayed in the car and she said, "I have to listen, obey, and share at school." I said, "That's right, but don't forget to have fun." When I dropped her off in her class, I gave her a kiss goodbye and she was off to play. No problem.

Then I went to Target and spent two hours. It was really nice and relaxing! Brian called to check on me and I said I was being a big girl, but I did lay in bed for quite some time last night thinking and praying about today. After I left Target, I realized that Sophie was out on the playground right then, so I stalked her from the parking lot. Okay, stalking is a strong word, so let's just say I spied on her. I just wanted to see how she was doing! She was fine, of course, and was busy playing in the sandbox (gross). After about 15 minutes of undercover observing, I went to the library and read a magazine before I came back to pick her up. Loved it!

When she saw the van in the carpool line her eyes lit up. When I opened the door she said, "Hey Mama!" Once she got in the car she said, "I'm here!" After a little probing, I found out that she sat next to Cooper and had bumblebee cookies for snack, shared the baby dolls with Lucy, and called Daddy on the phone at school. She said, "Mama, we're going back to school again." I said, "You sure are."

So a good morning was had by all and tomorrow we get to do it all over again. I couldn't help myself and bought Sophie a Groovy Girl at Target (Vanessa) to celebrate this special day. And a Hello Kitty shirt. And maybe a puzzle. Hey, I was proud of her. You only start K-3 once in your life!

Parent Night

Last night we went to Parent Night at the church where Sophie will be attending K-3. She did great! She was very excited when she saw the classroom set-up with different play areas. When her teacher walked in, she said, "Hi, Ms. Morgan!" We had to leave her in the class to go to the parent meeting, and when I told her we would be back soon, she barely paid me any attention because she didn't want to stop playing. When we came back, she was busy playing with the dolls and "fixing them tomatoes" in the kitchen area (I don't know where that came from because she doesn't even like tomatoes!). She was really proud of the blue school bag Ms. Morgan gave her when we were leaving. I took pictures tonight because when she starts school on Monday they encouraged us not to linger.

She will be attending school on Monday and Tuesday mornings from 8:30 - 11:30am. She is excited about "spending time with Ms. Morgan", as well as playing on the playground and eating snacks. Life is good.

My Girl

The Lord has given Brian and I the priviledge of raising the best daughter in the whole world! She is a loving child with a social personality. And she's a Mama's girl! She has brought unspeakable joy and love into our lives and is truly a blessing. She loves to play with her Groovy Girls and play dress up. Thank you, Lord, for choosing us to come together and be a family.
